Meet FLOSSY; a four-piece grunge rock band fronted by sisters Sinead and Lauren O'Hara with Tom Wilson on lead guitar and Steve D'Angelo on drums, who are influenced by garage and grunge bands of the 90s (especially those with powerful femme front women). Over the last year they've supported national acts such as Good Doogs, WAAX, Luca Brasi, Abbe May, Jebediah, End of Fashion, Bleeding Knees Club as well as international acts like Radio Moscow (US), Gooch Palms (LA based), and Big Country (UK).
Mal de Mer burst onto the Perth music scene in late 2017, and have quickly become audience favourites. The band blends an acerbic vocal style seamlessly with funk-inspired guitar riffs and saxophone wails. Rapidly gaining momentum, they are not a band to be missed.
Young Robin release new EP 'Transitions'
Young Robin are progressing so fast that it's exciting to watch – anticipating what they're going to do next, only to have those expectations surpassed. A band with an innate knack for hooks, Young Robin craft a beautiful sound that is somewhere between blissful indie and dance floor anthems. Fittingly, their latest single, the irresistible ‘U’, is both. Equal parts groove and melody, ‘U’ is the perfect first taste of the band's stellar new EP, ‘Transitions’.
Built upon a rhythm you can't sit still to, ‘U’ is a delight for the ears with its perfectly-placed layers of delay-soaked guitar, bass, and effortlessly smooth vocals. Playful and euphoric, ‘U’ feels like summer in Perth – as if the band have distilled the excitement of their beautiful hometown down into a singular burst of energy.
This is due in no small part to award-winning producer Andy Lawson, who has sculpted the ‘Transitions’ EP masterfully – capturing the band's energy like lightning in a bottle. Bringing each vivid layer of the band to life, giving every instrument its perfect place in the mix, the combination of Young Robin and Andy Lawson has allowed each song to reach its full potential. ‘Transitions’ is the band at its best.
Just two years ago, the band was releasing its debut EP, ‘Tether’, and its stunning singles ‘Ferndully’, and ‘Faker Faker’. The band announced their arrival with a sound that was energised by youth and friendship – exemplified by their 2017 follow-up single, ‘Stay’. ‘U’ takes this chemistry to the next level – adding refinements that show how far they have progressed since their inception. The band's experience on stage reveals itself in the quality of their playing, and their continued mateship sculpts their songwriting.
Always itching to tour, Young Robin will be celebrating the release of ‘Transitions’ doing what they do best. Shows are booked across their home state of Western Australia, with national dates to be announced later this year. Kicking it all off, Young Robin will launch ‘Transitions’, at The Sewing Room, Perth, on March 24, before hitting the south west.
"Phoneline Valentine are a blend of phat alt rock and indie pop rock from Perth, WA. Forming mid 2017, the band have had a fast start, winning the 2018 Rock scholars Scholarpalooza and having the upcoming release of their hectic new single, Gone, early next year. Having played along side names like Wooly Mammoth, Man Sandel, Yomi Ship, Young Robin, Last Lions and Airline Food, the band have BIG things in store for 2019"
